THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF THIS COMIC? The script. The punchline changed somewhat; I originally had Carrotfoot's mom in the last panel say, "Oh, its ok, Peter. It was only an accident." And then Peter would say his line left in the final comic. The other version was Peter saying the "Minor error" line in the first panel, and then in the third panel he would say, "Like I said, it was a minor error". This is one of those comics where the jokes build upon one another. There are three jokes being juggled around in this comic: The absurdity of the outcome of the play, how badly Peter screws up all the time, and Peter actually knocking over the tree on purpose. So if a person doesn't understand one joke, they'll get the other two, or vice versa.
The most fun part of this comic? Costuming. Having short little bunny rabbits yelling at each other in indian and pilgrim outfits is just plain outrageous. (I especially like the second panel.)
I just had to stick in an indian headress in this comic. It was fun to draw, but I had to refer to Greame Base's picture book, The Eleventh Hour in order to draw it. I tried to make my drawing similar to the one the tiger Max wears in the book, just as a small tribute to that book I grew up with.
Happy thanksgiving!

Coupon Collector
IN THIS COMIC WE GET A RARE peek into Carrotfoot's room. Note the paraphernalia thrown onto the floor, the desk with the lamp on it, and the generic rock-band poster on Carrotfoot's wall. All of it is totally unnecessary, but it's not too distracting, makes it feel more like a room, and gives a subtle hint on what kind of a character Carrotfoot is. I use light switches to sort of orient the reader of the comic on what exactly they're looking at. I also had some fun with "camera" angles on this comic.
As a solo cartoonist, you control everything. The camera angles, layout, script, costume design, acting, and set design is all up to one person. It may seem overwhelming, but it's also nice to be in complete control. Since only one person is responsible for the comic, the cartoonist must take all of the praise, which is nice, and all of the negative criticism, which isn't.
A little easter egg: What Carrotfoot is reading is one of my favorite magazines.

Late Halloween
OF COURSE, HALLOWEEN WAS several weeks ago, but I came up with the idea for this comic on the
day of Halloween, and instantly fell in love with it. My goal was to show how ridiculous Halloween really is. Also, it's the return of the unfortunate little Halloween cat, who had her candy stolen last year! Will she be a reoccuring character every Halloween? I have no idea. I had to rewrite some of the dialogue, though, so that it was simplified and I could have more room for the drawing. I also used a "panel within a panel" effect, again to free up some room.
And here is a Carrotfoot jack-o-lantern I carved! It's probably the only one in the world, and if it isn't, I'd like to see it! Send it in an email to carrotfootcomic@gmail.com KEEP READING, and I'll keep drawing!

2010 Cast Picture & New Colorized Comic
I THINK THAT COLOR REALLY ADDS TO comics in general. It adds flair to the comic. I personally like how the wave looks like in this drawing.
This is the 2010 cast sketch I drew. Of course, no new characters in this picture, but its still an improvement, isn't it?

The Start of the Second Year
UNFORTUNATELY, I HAVEN'T BEEN able to draw or blog for a while. The last post was August 20th, and it's already October 4th, which is Carrotfoot's 2nd anniversary. My goal was to have 100 comics drawn by this date, and I am only nine comics shy of meeting that goal. But other, more important things in my life have taken priority over comics. It is almost frustrating how little comic writing I can do on my spare time these days. Despite all this, it amazes me how far I've gone in the last two years. (I'm almost embarrassed when I look back to the first comics I drew.) Carrotfoot will keep moving forward, however at not as rapid of a pace as before. Since it Carrotfoot turns two years old today, here is a little logo and possible T-Shirt design:
Hope you enjoyed it! Remember, email me at carrotfootcomic@gmail.com. And I promise you, a comic will be coming soon!Friday, August 20, 2010

Walter's Weekend
CARTOONISTS REALLY HAVE TO BE CAREFUL when drawing a comic with a lot of dialogue. The words crowd out the pictures, so it's especially important in comics to minimize the word choice and still get your message across. I believe I've done a good job at doing this. And, as always, you can email me about any questions, comments, or problems at carrotfootcomic@gmail.com. Also, visit the twitter page and the facebook page. Keep reading, and I'll keep drawing!

Carrotfoot in Color!
FINALLY, I COLORIZED some comics! Of course, these are older ones, but I still think they look better. Also, Carrotfoot has its own email adress! So, if any of you would like to email me about how much you either love or hate the blog, now's your chance! It's carrotfootcomic@gmail.com So, send an email or add a comment telling me which version you like better- colored or black and white? I might even relay your email over the blog! I will be colorizing more of the older comics.

The Stars
I DREW THIS SKETCH a long time ago, and then I just barely colorized it with watercolor. Stars, space, and all-around astronomy fascinates me, so I guess that's why I made this.

Paint Fight!
I LOVED DRAWING THE paint-covered Carrotfoot you see in the last panel. This was actually a challenging comic to draw, what with the paint splattering everywhere and the arm movements.

The Color is Chosen...FINALLY!
IT MAY SEEM KIND OF CHEAP to have a cloud of dust in a fight scene, but I think that in that small of a space I couldn't have drawn a complete fight and leave readers satisfied . Also, I like to leave it to the reader's imagination to what actually happened.

Four Days Fishing
I'M ESPECIALLY PROUD OF the night-time scenes in this comic. I believe that what I did to the water was better than leaving it blank. I'm also proud of the panel layout, especially in the third panel. This is the first time I tried some interesting panel design, and I believe it's vey effective.
I also had to draw really tiny versions of Carrotffot and Walter. That was also a first.

Carrotfoot Campout!
I liked drawing this comic because of the outdoorsy scene. Drawing Carrotfoot relaxing in a hammock in his backyard is a lot more fun to draw than any indoor scene. I feel that, visually, this is the best comic I've drawn so far.
This second comic is an overexaggeration of one of my own scouting experiences: My two friends and I slept in a two-man tent. I remember one of my leaders popping his head in the tent and laughing at us.More Scouting next wek, of course!

Peter Vs. Carrotfoot
ANOTHER COMIC I enjoyed making! I especially loved drawing Peter in the last panel. I imagine Peter as a mischevous little rabbit, almost like Leslie, except with merriness instead of meanness (is that a word?).Anyway, I added the facebook fans and followers widget to the sidebar, so I strongly encourage you to follow this blog if you have a blog and become a fan of it on Facebook if you have a Face book!
Anyway, keep reading, and I'll keep drawing!

A Carrotfoot Book?
MANY OF YOU HAVE ASKED me if there is ever going to be a Carrotfoot book published, so I'm just going to answer on my blog. I personally don't think I have enough comics yet. My goal is to finish 100 comics, and then, if all goes well, I'll publish a book. The comic yesterday was #70, so I just have thirty more to go! And trust me, I'm just as excited for a book as you are!
Also, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

Carrotfoot's Crazy Dream
I SURE HOPE YOU ENJOYED READING THIS, because I really liked drawing this one! This marks the tenth Sunday comic I made. It is mostly based on a short movie my brother was going to film, but the last panel is entirely my own creation. I got to draw a varying scale of emotions in this comic: the one of relaxation in the first panel, of puzzlement in the next,of fear in the third, and relief/confusion in the second to last. I noticed while making this comic that I need to work on drawing Carotfoot yelling. Keep reading, and I'll keep drawing!

Poor Walter

I DREW THE ROSE BUSHES in the final panel to cover up the front porch, because I didn't really know what else to do with it. I also Imagine Carrotfoot and his parents as avid gardeners, (hence the rows of flowers) which also might be why I did that.
I'm also sprucing up the blog for valentine's day, but don't anticipate a Valentine's day comic.

Ideas

I'VE HAD THIS IDEA for a long time. I have endless ideas for comics, I can't wait to draw them! I just wish I had more time to draw the comic, I can't keep up with the endless river of inspiration. You might ask where do I get these ideas? All around. I grasp ideas from everything, from everywhere; it's amazing how many are there, if you just keep your eyes and ears open. You just have to be eager for ideas.
