What Walter Wants for Christmas

I DON'T REALLY UNDERSTAND this comic, but it makes me laugh, so there you are:
More Christmas next week!

Going Caroling...

I ENJOYED DRAWING the title panel and the old owl on this Sunday comic. Excluding the title panel, this comic has only six panels, but still, a lot of stuff happens.

When drawing this comic, I tried to capture several signs of Christmas: There's the bundled-up carolers, the snowman, the present underneath the Christmas tree and the stalking hanging from the fire, just to name a few of the major ones...

And again, the colors of the blog are changed for the holidays!

Christmas is coming!

This is just a quick apology about no comic this weekend. Its just been a pretty hectic week... be sure to come next week!

Hello, December

ITS WINTERTIME, AND THAT MEANS SNOW. I'm not from a snowy area, but this is what I think it would be like:

Holidays are a good time to get ideas for comics. You've already seen my Halloween and Thanksgiving comics, and I have a lot of great ideas for Christmas, too!

Official Carrotfoot Cast!

THIS IS A PICTURE I DREW mainly for two reasons: I got tired of the old blog header, and I wanted a picture of the entire Carrotfoot cast, so I drew one. Although Carrotfoot has had some guest stars, such as the genie, the school's principal, and Carrotfoot's scoutmaster, these are the twelve main characters:
Carrotfoot
Walter
Rory
Leslie
Sydney
Boots
Carrotfoot's parents
Benjiman
Peter
Flopsy
Mopsy
A cool thing about the header is that if you click on it, it will go back to the main page!

Random Carrotfoot Sketches Vol. 2

I'LL BE VERY BLUNT about the sketch below: I LOVE IT! I loved both drawing it and looking at it afterwards. I do believe it's one of my best drawings so far.
A regular pencil sketch. Hope fully I'll get to incorporate the treehouse more into the comic in the future.
I did this drawing forever ago, but here it is:

A little colorization!

TURKEY!

ONE THING I LIKE about this comic is the space I conserved. I wanted the last panel longer than the rest, so I used smaller panels at the beginning. I especially loved drawing an expression of pure evil on Carrotfoot's face four times in a single comic. The smudge in the third box was an accident, but I liked the effect and kept it there.
Below is a comic related-sketch I made before drawing the pictures above. ( I just changed "MOOSE!" to "SNAIL!"

The Quadruplets

YES, CARROTFOOT HAS SIBLINGS! Watch out for them. The quadruplets are an aditional element to Carrotfoot's bunnyish nature. I look forward to including them in more comics.

But I hope they fit into the strip; you can eliminate friends from a comic, but you can't eliminate brothers and sisters. That's why you have to be careful.

If you are wondering what their names are, they are (in order form left to right in the last panel):
Peter
Benjiman
Flopsy
Mopsy
I got them from Beatrix Potter's "Peter Rabbit" and "The Tale of Benjiman Bunny"

Haloween '09 continued

This is the last of the Halloween comics for this year!
Also, for you Facebook fans, Carrotfoot now has a Facebook page!
I'd love to chat, but I gotta go trick-or-treating.
See you next week!

Halloween '09

With Halloween looming closer, I thought it'd be fun to change the colors a bit. Prepare for more Halloween comics tomorrow!

Post-Birthday Comic

Well, it's been a few days after carrotfoot's birthday, and I'm still making comics! This was really fun one to draw.

Happy Birthday, Carrotfoot!

Happy birthday, Carrotfoot! Today is Carrotfoot's first anniversary, and I also completed my goal of 50 comics just in time! I'm looking forward to a great new year of comic-drawing!

(Just so you know- Carrotfoot's age in the comic is around twelve years old. He's just referring to the age of the comic in general in the third panel.)

Procrastination

My favorite panel to draw was either the third or the eighth. This never happened to me, but I have procrastinated papers until it came to the point to where I had to do it at school on the day it was due.

One thing I forgot to mention...

If you check out the archive and see the old post "Random Carrotfoot Sketches" this picture will be on there. One interesting thing about this picture is that it was the first one I drew with Carrotfoot's diamond-shaped ears. It's true, I used to draw his ears curvy like any normal cartoonist would. But after I drew this picture, I thought it looked good. So I kept it, and his ears haven't changed since.

But that doesn't mean they'll always be drawn that way.

The Phone

This is exactly how it is at my house. It's interesting, I find so many ideas from ordinary, everyday experiences.

A couple of interesting things:
#1: Note the magazine Carrotfoot is reading.
#2: A new signature! Not that different than the old one, but still different.

Official Carrotfoot Logos

These are the official Carrotfoot logos. Look for the "CF" with Carrots and the name "Carrotfoot" with the carrots in the two O's. This is possibly the cover for my first Carrotfoot book collection, which I hope to make before Christmas.
IMPORTANT DATE: October the fourth is the Carrotfoot's first anniversary! Mark your calendars!

Leslie and the Genie Part 3: The Second Wish

I had to get a picture off the Internet to draw the car in the second and third panel. It was extra work, but it was worth the realistic picture.

Leslie and the Genie Part 4: The Final Wish

Thus ends the tail of Leslie and the Genie.

Leslie and the Genie Part 2: The First Wish

The third panel was really hard to draw, because in it I had to make the contents in the fridge dark, yet obious that it was ice cream.

Leslie and the Genie: Part 1

Leslie finds a genie's lamp! This story is sort of an experiment. I want to see if crazy, unrealistic stories will fit the comic well.

Lockers

I draw Walter in a new way now. He was constantly accused by certain people of not looking like a panda, and now, looking back, I realized they were right. So now he is drawn differently, and I'm satisfied with the change.

This Sunday comic was one I really enjoyed drawing. It was a challenge because with a locker in front of Carrotfoot, it was hard to show his face and also show his locker at the same time. I had to either draw him in profile or at full back. Whenever Carrotfoot gets really mad, he pulls as hard as he can on his ears. This is really the first comic-and definitely not the last- where we see Carrotfoot's angry side. The title panel is based off of a doodle I drew at school, and my favorite panel is the sixth. I also think it's funny that Carrotfoot is shouting at his locker.

This experience, of course, happened to me, too.

AND-let us not forget all the people who died on this day, eight years ago.

God Bless America.

Change of Plans.

I got this idea for the comic while eating a REEEEALLLY thick milkshake at Lagoon. I have a change in my goals, which is to now draw 50 comics by October 4th instead of August 30th. The reason? That's the date when I drew the first Carrotfoot comic, which would be Carrotfoot's REAL birthday (Aug. 30 was when I created the blog).

Boots is back!

Another comic without words. I really like the paneling I did in this comic.
If you hadn't guessed already, my own dog was inspiration for this.

The Beach

This is the first time I've done three comics in one post. My favorite is the second one.

Walter and Leslie

This is one of the rare comics without Carrotfoot. I think it's nice to see how other minor characters interact with each other, too.

New comic and Process

This week, along with the comic, I'd like to talk about the process of drawing my cartoons. I have a whiteboard and use the back of it as a makeshift lap desk. I tape down my drawing paper to it and draw all the panels. I use a triangle and a T-square to make sure the lines are all straight. I use 8.5in. x 13in. paper, but I draw my comics only 4.5in. x 12in. After drawing all the panels, I loosely sketch out the people and objects in them. I then add in dialogue. After that, I put on the finishing touches and then the comic is ready to be inked. I used to ink the comic right on the original, but now I tape tracing paper over it and trace over the comic in ink, so that way the comic is more clear due to the lack of eraser marks. I use a felt-tip marker for smaller lines and a calligraphy pen for larger areas of black. After I finish a comic, I throw it into my portfolio for display. When I need to put it on the blog, I scan it in and upload it. My scanner only permits one half of the comic to be scanned in at a time, so I have to photo shop the two halves together before I upload my comic. I also have to make single-panel comics shorter than usual.

End of Scout Camp and goals.

This is the end of the scout camp stories. I'm sort of glad I finished it so I could start working on other ideas. I have a goal to draw 50 comics before Aug. 30, which on that date Carrotfoot will turn 1 year old. I have bout 30 already, so I feel like I'm making great progress. On the bottom left is a picture I did of Carrotfoot a long time ago, but never really got around to putting it on the blog.

Confession

I lied when I said that I won't be blogging on vacation. I just found this comic that I guessed I uploaded before I went, so here it goes!

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Guess What?

I'm on vacation now! I wanted to blog while still on vacation, but I forgot to bring my flash drive with me! I'm so sorry , but I guess I won't be blogging for at least two more weeks.

Scout Camp Continued

This comic is based on a similar experience I had while camping.

We had so many mosquitoes at our campsite that we actually had to buy these hats with nets on them to keep the mosquitoes away.

Carrotfoot Goes to Scout Camp

This is the beggining of an extended comic where Carrotfoot goes to scout camp. I think since this comic focuses more on friends than family, this new addition to the strip fits in rather nicely.
